The Designer will be responsible for supporting the design and implementation of Future Proof Telecom’s customer’s rapidly evolving network infrastructure by leveraging a variety of tools. The position reports into Network Engineering and Operations   Summary of the Role   The OSP Designer is primarily responsible for creating designs of Outside Plant Fiber Optic Networks and for efficiently leveraging key tools and processes to support the constructions of new projects as well as the maintenance of existing ones. Working under the supervision of Professional Engineer, this role will leverage cutting-edge tools methods to create design layouts, Bill of Material, Splice reports, link budget loss, link margin loss, conduit fill calculation, ensure schedules are met and collaborate with internal teams to facilitate a smooth flow of operations. The OSP Designer will play an essential role in providing a steady support to Network, Construction, Implementation, and project management teams.   Essential Functions  

  • Creating complex OSP designs that meet Future Proof Telecom’s and its client’s objectives
  • Create high-quality permits and construction drawings
  • Adhering to schedule and maintaining a high quality of deliverables
  • Innovating to increase efficiency in processes and in the use of available resources
  • Perform quality control on Drafters work and completing field visits as required
  • Working as part of a team to develop processes, participating in costing /estimating exercise, and ensuring that efforts are aligned with Future Proof Telecom’s goals
  • Readily providing support to internal teams as needed to sustain a steady flow of operations
  • Tracking progress status, documenting resourcing requirements and relevant data
  • Attending regular meetings (both internal and external) and being prepared to participate as needed
  • Participating in the development and introduction of new tools and/or process improvements
  Key Skills and Competencies  
  • Must work extremely well in a collaborative team environment
  • Must be able to complete simple math operations to calculate link budget, link margin and conduit fill
  • Must have proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Must have interest in continuous learning and open to new challenges
  • Experience with GIS based systems such as QGIS or ArcGIS and working with various file formats (KML/KMZ, ESRI Shapefiles, GDP) and familiarity with Datum and projections systems is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of CAD systems such as Autodesk AutoCAD is desirable
  • Knowledge of Outside Plant (OSP) fiber design and construction processes are considered an asset.
  • 5-7 years of experience in engineering or construction
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or other related technical skills.
