Surveyor / Geomatics Engineer

Future Proof Telecom is looking for a qualified Surveyor/Geomatics Engineer to join our team. This role will be responsible for collecting and manipulating field data to supporting the design and implementation of Future Proof Telecom’s customer’s rapidly evolving network infrastructure. The position reports into Network Engineering and Operations   Summary of the Role   The Surveyor/ Geomatics Engineer is primarily responsible for conducting a broad range of field surveys including construction, highway, bridge site plan, topographic, volumetric, preliminary planning, design, control and boundary. This role must be able to accurately record measurements and GPS points, prepare field notes, quality control survey work, and compile and compute survey data. Additionally, the Surveyor must ensure to meet deadlines, work as with other team members to ensure a smooth flow of operations, and may be required to conduct field trainings   Essential Functions

  • Leading Survey operations to meet Future Proof Telecom’s and its client’s objectives
  • Maintain accurate survey records, documentation and stamped submittals
  • Provide layout at various stages of construction
  • Organize and manage survey operations and personnel
  • Collect as-built records and surveyors notes in a specified format
  • Managing schedule, cost, and quality of deliverables
  • Innovating to increase efficiency in processes and in the use of available resources
  • Perform quality control on survey data
  • Working as part of a team to develop processes, participating in costing /estimating exercise, and ensuring that efforts are aligned with Future Proof Telecom’s goals
  • Readily providing support to internal teams as needed to sustain a steady flow of operations
  • Tracking progress status, documenting resourcing requirements and relevant data, and creating reports to support leadership team
  • Attending regular meetings (both internal and external) and being prepared to participate as needed
  • Developing and reporting KPIs to measure efficiency of the process (ie, cost and schedule of the process)
  • Developing and reporting KPIs to measure effectiveness of the process (ie, accuracy data and costing to final construction, success in meeting customer needs, etc.)
  • Periodic review of the processes, resourcing, and tools to determine opportunities for improvement
  • Leading the development and introduction of new tools and/or process improvements
  • Measuring and reporting the impact of any improvements on efficiency and effectiveness
  Key Skills and Competencies  
  • Minimum 2 years of construction surveying experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Geomatics Engineering or Surveying Technology, or equivalent field training
  • Knowledge of survey practices, standards and laws
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in the use of MS Office
  • Working knowledge of CAD systems such as Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil3D is desirable
  • Experience with GIS based systems such as QGIS or ArcGIS and working with various file formats (KML/KMZ, ESRI Shapefiles, GDP) and familiarity with Datum and projections systems is considered an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must work extremely well in a collaborative team environment
  • With only high-level guidance, the Surveyor/Geomatics Engineer must be able to lead small teams and manage cost, schedule and deliverables
  • Must have proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Must have interest in continuous learning and open to new challenges
  • Knowledge of Outside Plant (OSP) fiber design and construction processes are considered an asset.
  • A driver’s license is required for this position
